Attadale to Open Private Rehabilitation Hospital

Apr 10, 2015

In response to shifting demographics and healthcare needs of the local area, Attadale Private Hospital is changing its focus to rehabilitation.

The 31-bed private rehabilitation hospital will be the only facility of its kind south of the river and will provide a much-needed local service to meet increasing demand.

To cater to the local community’s changing needs, Attadale will close its maternity and surgical services from midnight Friday 31 July and replace them with a specialised rehabilitation hospital.

Attadale physician Dr Jake Harper welcomed the news, saying it is a fantastic opportunity for local people to experience high quality rehabilitation close to home.

"We are excited with the opportunity to help satisfy a major unmet need for postoperative care,” he said.

"Families are constantly asking us for more rehabilitation beds close to where they live."

Hospital CEO Jane Case is also looking forward to providing a much-needed service in the south metropolitan area.

“We have not taken this decision lightly, given the history of Attadale’s maternity services,” she said.

“Deliveries and surgical procedures at the hospital have been in constant decline since 2011. We have also had difficulties recruiting and retaining obstetricians, surgeons, midwives and operating theatre nurses. There have also been challenges providing paediatrician cover for maternity services for some time.”

Ms Case said the Hospital was working closely with any staff affected by the change to assist with employment.

Ms Case said the conversion of the Hospital into a private rehabilitation hospital, the only one of its kind south of the river, will be a major benefit to the local community.
