Attadale Rehabilitation Hospital’s Consumer Meetings provide valuable feedback

Patient Experience Week, which runs from April 26 to 30, is an opportunity to celebrate people who help shape the patient experience in WA hospitals.

Patient feedback has become increasingly important for improving patient experience, particularly as the WA health care system becomes more patient-centred.

Attadale Rehabilitation Hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Leonie Gardiner, said patientcentred care encourages patients to participate in their own treatment pathways.

“Patient-centred care involves patients asking questions and making decisions about their healthcare,” Ms Gardiner said.

“It promotes respect for individual preferences and diversity.”

In an effort to encourage patient feedback to improve health outcomes, Ms Gardiner holds a consumer group meeting once a month at Attadale Rehabilitation Hospital.

“We invite patients to talk to our executive team about what we do well and ways we can improve,” Ms Gardiner said.

“We also ask patients if they feel involved in their health care.”

Ms Gardiner said the consumer meetings were popular and insightful.

“These patient feedback meetings have been invaluable for seeing our hospital from a consumer’s perspective, and making changes to improve patient experience,” Ms Gardiner said.

“We are very grateful to our patients who take time out of their day to help us ensure patients receive the best possible care for optimal health outcomes.”
